Election of Officers
Keynote Speaker: Jean Way
For 35 years, Jean Way thoroughly enjoyed a teaching career in Richmond and in the teacher education program at Simon Fraser University. Jean spent the last 5 years of her career as teacher and principal at Galiano Community School. Since retirement, for 10 years she has been very active in the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign of the Stephen Lewis foundation. With a friend, she started the Richmond Gogos (gogo being the Zulu word for grandmother). She co-chaired the 25 groups of the Greater Van Gogos, and was a Canadian delegate to the first International African Grandmothers Gathering in Swaziland. Presently she is helping to launch the Campaign into the United States.

Pauline Le Bel, of Bowen Island, is a singer-songwriter, award-winning novelist and Emmy-nominated screenwriter. Today, she is the creative director of Knowing Our Place, a reconciliation initiative.
Whale in the Door: Pauline Le Bel embarks on a journey of discovery to find out what is special about Howe Sound – its wild nature, its people, and its cultural and spiritual revivals. Whale in the Door invites readers into a story of biological resilience as a community struggles to shape a vision for its future.
