Reading Series authors:
Rosemary Georgeson is a wonderful Sahtu Dene and Coast Salish storyteller, playwright and sometimes performer, who has strong ties to our community. She was born and raised on Galiano and shares stories from growing up on the water in a fishing family. In this video, she is sharing from a piece that she wrote in Rising Tides called A Lifetime With Bulb Kelp. You can find Rising Tides at the Galiano Library.
Holly Schofield reads from her story Nowhere Radio, published in Shut Down Strangers & Hot Rod Angels in 2019. The author of over eighty short stories, her works are used in university curricula and have been translated into several languages. Rising Tides and Cli-Fi: Canadian Tales of Climate Change are two of the anthologies in which her stories appear and are available at the Galiano Community Library.
Cedar Bowers reads part of her short story The Same Cabin, published in August 2018 in Taddle Creek Magazine. It’s about a woman struggling to figure out who she is again after having children, and her belief that renting a short-term vacation rental on a Gulf Island will miraculously solve everything. Her debut novel, ASTRA, is forthcoming in June 2021.
Sandy Martin reads from her first novel Blue Rain. Sandy’s first love is poetry, which she has studied and crafted for 30 years. She has been working in prose since she moved full time to Galiano in 2005.
J. Jill Robinson reading an excerpt from her work That Story is Your Mother’s, which was first published in the literary journal Prairie Fire in 2010. The journal with the full story will soon be available at the Library. Jill’s works, including More in Anger and her story collections are available at the Galiano Community Library.
