History of the Saturna Island Community Library

In 1990, the Saturna Island Community Library (Eddie Reid Memorial Library) was started on Saturna Island by Don and Joan McLellan with some books they donated and financial assistance from the Lions. It was run by 7 volunteers and was given $500 per year from Saturna Community Club.

In 1995, the library became a recognized community library or “Reading Room”, which enabled us to receive provincial grants. Over the years, the number of volunteers increased and there are currently over 20.

The library is now a member of the Sikta group of libraries of the BC Libraries Co-Operative, and as such has regular circulation and an online catalogue.
