Creative Fabric Arts – Patti Moreland
Artist Statement
In the whimsical world of Patti Moreland’s textile art, recycled fabrics transcend their origins to
become enchanting, three-dimensional creatures that dance between reality and imagination.
As a textile artist, her work is a celebration of sustainability and creativity, where discarded
materials find new life and purpose.
Each sculpture begins with a story—a threadbare sweater, a faded pair of jeans, or a forgotten
scarf—each with its own history and potential. These materials, once considered obsolete, are
carefully chosen and repurposed to create vibrant, tactile sculptures that invite both joy and
introspection. Patti’s process involves a blend of intuitive design and meticulous craftsmanship,
transforming ordinary textiles into fantastical, whimsical characters that seem to spring to life
with personality and charm.
Patti’s aim is to bridge the gap between the whimsical and the practical, crafting pieces that are not only visually captivating but also embody a deeper message of environmental
consciousness. By giving discarded textiles a second chance, she hopes to inspire viewers to
see the beauty in what is often overlooked and to appreciate the potential for renewal in the
everyday.
Her animal sculptures are not simply decorative; they are playful companions that encourage us to explore the possibilities of imagination and sustainability. Through her art, Patti strives to
create a dialogue about the value of creativity in recycling and the joy of transforming the
mundane into the magical.
Patti shows her creations at the Galiano Saturday market and in her home gallery, Crooked
Duck Studio, located at the east entrance to Bluff Park.
