Art in the library – Galiano

Wednesday April 3 - Sunday June 2

Art in the library – Galiano

Places Visited – Kenna Barradell

Kenna lived in Victoria, BC, before escaping big city coffee and lunch dates to live a more focused work life on Pender Island in 2015.

Kenna is a painter who occasionally creates works in other media; wood, clay, fabric and metal. Her large acrylic works are eclectic; a mix of expressionism, abstract, and modern. She creates stories; social/emotional/political commentary using surrealism, abstraction, distortion and humour. She is interested in how relationships between individuals, societies, and the environment coexist. There are millions of stories possible, and it’s a great challenge to represent any one of them visually.

Kenna attended the Vancouver School of Art, Victoria School of Art, and Victoria College of Art. Her artworks are in private collections in North America and Europe. She has shown her works in the juried Sooke Fine Arts Show (2013-19, and 2022-23) receiving Awards of Excellence in 2019 and 2022. She is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. In 2021 and 2023, she exhibited her work in the Salt Spring National Art Prize Parallel Show. Before moving to Pender Island from Victoria BC in 2015, she showed her works at Gage and Eclectic Galleries in Victoria, BC. She also creates works on commission.

Kenna would love to discuss her inspiration and her technique with you at the library.
